Keys to mastering your life.
by Barb Doyle, Sc.
Here are some essential keys to taking control of and get the most out of life.
1. Relaxation
So many people say that they are "stressed out". Nothing can cause you stress. It is how you think about something that causes you to feel stress. How you think creates how you feel. It is easier to control your thinking than to try and control outside experiences. Your subconcious mind cannot tell the difference between reality and make believe. The next time you feel yourself stressed out
picture yourself in a nature scene. Use all of your senses. By using visualization you will notice increased energy and less stress.
2. Vision and Goals
Try designing your life rather than letting "life" happen by chance. What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail? Write down your goals and dreams and next to each one put a "why" by it. If you can't think of a "why" then eliminate it from your list. The reason to set goals is so that you change. To achieve goals you have to become different. If you are not growing as a person you are
decaying.
3. Handle Resentment
By the time we are 8 years old we have 80% of our beliefs. Most of your beliefs you have today were developed when you were a child. 99% of the decisions you don't make are made up by your belief system. There are three phases to resentment.
First phase - Resentment - Any emotion which we view as negative to what is said or done.
Second phase - Resistance - This is where we put up a wall which cuts off communication. When you resist you lose control.
Third phase - Revenge - This is the attempt to get even and to settle the score. The important thing to remember is that you can't get even. What you put out is what you get back in life. You want to avoid these three phases.
4. Creativity
You have to change on the inside before anything on the outside will change. You are the way you are because of your thinking. For your concious mind you want to use affirmations on a daily basis. Affirmations start with I, are positive, are specific, and are stated in the present tense. The way to change your thinking is with repetition and with emotional attachment. The more emotion you can put into your affirmation the better. Your thinking runs your feelings which runs your behavior.
5. Responsibility versus Victim
Victim is where "it" is done to me. Being responsible is about choices that we have made, past or present. Responsibility and victim has nothing to do with the truth. It has everything to do with two different outlooks. When we are responsible it is empowering. There is more hope, more possibilities. Responsibility does not equal fault. Looking at fault/blame doesn't solve anything. When you look at something through the eyes of being responsible then you can see options and solutions. We create everything in our life whether it be good or bad. Choose to be responsible and see how much better your life can be. Losers choose to remain victims.
6. This Is The First Day and The Last Day of Your Life
Every day have the attitude that this is the first day and the last day of the rest of your life. Most of us go around in life either controlled by the regrets of yesterday or by the fears of tomorrow. Our life is robbed by these two thieves. If today truly was the first day of your life you would have no regrets. You would be totally excited. To have this attitude you have to give up any grudges that you have been holding on to. If today were the last day of your life you would have a great sense of urgency. We never know when it will be the last day of our life. Have this sense of urgency when everything is going right rather than waiting until things go wrong. Your attitude would be that of contribution. You would do a lot more today rather than waiting until everything is "right".
